Кутё, потому что в профиле был проставлен параметр отображения аватарки по строго фиксированной высоте - 150px. Хотя надо было прописывать ширину. Но об этом, наверное, забыли. Вот поэтому её так и раздувает - аватарка маленькая, код увеличивает её высоту до 150, и вместе с тем увеличивает и её размер.
